The Clayton County Board of Health, Environmental Health Services is responsible for permitting and regulating body piercings, tattooing and cosmetic tattooing microblading within the county.

What is Body Art?

"Body art" means the practice of physical body adornment by the following techniques; body piercing, tattooing and cosmetic tattooing such as Microblading.

New Service! Microblading

As of May 8, 2018, Governor Nathan Deal signed a Senate bill which defines Microblading of the eyebrow as a tattoo art. Beginning July 1, 2019, microblading artists are considered to be tattoo artists who can apply for permits and obtain insurance policies. The Department of Public Health and county boards of health have adopted and promulgate rules and regulations to ensure the protection of the public's health. Such rules and regulations shall prescribe reasonable standards for health and safety of tattoo studios about:

  1. Location and cleaniness of facilities;
  2. Sterilization and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines for the prevention and spread of infectious diseases by all personnel;
  3. Informed consent by the person receiving a tattoo;
  4. Procedures for ensuring adequate explanation to consumers of the proper subsequent care of a tattoo;
  5. Proper use and maintienance of tattoo equipment, including dyes and pigments.
